Mind over matter

Hey! So we're living in a new place now. We like it. I just have to smile to myself when Matthew tells some of his guy buddies that his favorite thing about the new place is that there is a garbage disposal. :)

The first few days moving in, though, we were having some doubts about the apartment we chose. Let's just say... the ceilings are low. We're talking only a few inches above our heads, and when you're just suddenly exposed to low ceilings, its a bit of an adjustment. Luckily we found a good solution: take a shower! The ceiling in the bathroom is the same height as everywhere else, but the tub is a few inches higher than the floor. What I'm trying to say is that my head grazes the ceiling when taking a shower. And, since the shower head isn't adjustable in the least, the water hits me below the shoulder blades. Hmm....

The good news is that when you get out of the showers, the rest of the house feels positively roomy. It's like we're living with vaulted ceilings! It's all mind over matter. And don't worry, we are again satisfied with the apartment. Nothing but good times here!

Remember when Rabbit tried to teach Tigger a lesson?...

I think what he should have done is gotten Tigger to jump around inside, especially beneath a light fixture.  That would've made him more reticent to bounce around.  At least, that's the effect it had on Matthew.  Yesterday at our old apartment, Matthew sprung up from the floor and right into a light.  It left this fantastic gash.

Looks good, eh?

Wanted: Camping terrain

Within the past several days/week or so of blogstalking, I've become aware that everyone and their dog is going camping this summer. I want to go camping! Here's the thing, though. Raised in Minnesota, I have some expectations for camping that don't necessarily have to be met during a Utah camping experience, but 'twould be nice. Here we go:
1. Camping someplace pretty (not saying that Utah isn't pretty... just laying some groundwork)
2. Camping near trees. I just can't quite wrap my mind around camping in the desert. Like, barren wasteland camping. At least not at the present. However, of all the requirements, this is probably the one I'm most lenient on.
3. Camping near water. Be it a stream or lake, I love water stuff. Since I'm from Minnesota, basically anywhere you go you're near a lake or stream.
4. The possibility of a shower. I know, I know, you're thinking "city girl" but there you go. I would love to not be nasty.
5. Camping somewhere where we can make a fire. Apparently sometimes you can't make fires in Utah. Of all the requirements, this is definitely the most important. A campfire is a MUST.

Anywhere in a 5 hour or so radius around Provo is an option. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Any excuse is a good one

Monday was a big day. First off, it was my LAST DAY OF CLASSES! woot. So happy about that one. I'm not sad to say that the undergraduate college chapter of my life is over. Well, maybe a little sad. It was a good time, but I am ready to be moving on.

So I bet you're thinking, what could possible make this day even bigger? Well, duh, it was Rollover Day. Don't know what Rollover Day is? It brings even more definition to my dad's philosophy of "any excuse for a party." A little bit over a year ago, my dad was digging through old pictures and memorabilia at his parent's house, and he came across his baby book. He found a picture of him with the entry: August 9th: Pat's first time rolling over. Well this is a big deal, people. We obviously have to celebrate! Last year marked the first Rollover Day Celebration. There was rolling down the hill races, stick-and-wheel races, bike races, and we ate everything round. This year for the festivities my family went bowling, and of course ate many round things.

Can you even imagine the significance of having my last day of classes on Rollover Day? The symbolism of rolling over a new page, or rolling forward in life was not lost on me and my dad. Suffice it to say...big deal.

I need to make a confession...

I have a problem. Over the past year or two (or maybe five) I've developed this slightly pathetic habit... I scream whenever I drop something. It's not like a prolonged, 5 second scream, but it is a brief shriek. Every single time, without fail, I do it. Recently, this trend has taken a new twist. Now, I scream when Matthew drops something. For example, today he dropped his razor into the sink while he was shaving. I was standing near him, talking to him, I screamed, and he was just like... oh boy.

I'm sure there has to be a name for this. Maybe Obsessive Compulsive Screamer ? OCS? Or maybe Unintentional Screamer Syndrome, USS for short. Perhaps something a little bit simpler, like Screamaholism would be more fitting. Should I be going to SA (Screamaholics Anonymous?) I definitely think I need therapy... and I bet that massage therapy would be just the thing!
